Igor Grudin announces candidates for Team Russia

Head coach of Russian National Team, Igor Grudin, announced preliminary list of the players for the Beijing Games. Except many Russian players, Grudin decided to call 3 USA players to NT preliminary squad. Becky Hammon (168-G-77, college: Colorado St.), Kelly Miller (178-G-78, college: Georgia) and Deanna Nolan (180-G/F-79, college: Georgia) acquired for Russian citizenship after playing in the country. Becky Hammon played last season for CSKA Samara averaging 12.

Becky Hammon played last season for CSKA Samara averaging 12.9 ppg and 2.9 apg for 14 games in Euroleague. Before CSKA, she had fantastic season at WNBA reaching play-off semifinals. After she finished season with CSKA she immediately returned to San Antonio Silver Stars where she is again in a starting five. Hammon will be great reinforcement for Russian National Team.
Kelly Miller is another WNBA player with great experience. She played last season in Spartak Moscow Region winning Euroleague title. She's Phoenix Mercury was WNBA champion on 2007. After fantastic year with Spartak, Miller as Hammon returned to she's WNBA team where she is one of the most important players.
Third American player which Grudin called for the NT is Deanna Nolan. As two mentioned players above Nollan is also high class player of WNBA team Detroit Shock. She played previous season for Ekaterinburg.
Grudin picked flowing players for the first stage: Natalia Vodopyanova, Marina Kuzina, Tatiana Bokareva, Anastas Pimenova, Lyudmila Sapova, Tatiana Shchegoleva, Anna Petrakova, Elena Baranova, Elena Karpova, Irina Sokolovskaya, Maria Stepanova, Ekaterina Lisina, Irina Osipova, Svetlana Abrosimova, Oxana Rakhmatulina, Deanna Nolan, Valentine Leshcheva, Ilona Korstin, Rebecca Hammon, Marina Karpunina, Kelly Miller, Ekaterina Demagina, Elena Volkova and Elena Danilochkina.
As a reminder Russia won gold medal on previous EuroBasket and they for sure has big ambitions in China.
